Vietnam - Hanoi Hilton

When you read the title, you might be expecting to read about the Hilton hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam. But that would be incorrect. The Hanoi Hilton is the nickname for the Hoa Lo prison in Hanoi, which Matt and I had a chance to visit.

This prison used by the North Vietnamese army to house prisoners of war during the different wars in Vietnam (between the French, between themselves, between the Americans, etc) and was finally decommissioned in 1979.

The main gate - thick metal door.

Actual depiction of how the prisoners lived. Those who were confined to the general area and those who were in isolation.

An used guillotine:

Me locked inside one of the isolated cells. It was pretty dark and scary inside.

Then we came to a courtyard inside the prison. Pretty interesting doorway area, but then a really weird mural.

I found this funny. Sorry about the blurry picture I took. The caption reads" American pilots receive souvenirs before their release".

I hope you've enjoyed your stay at the Hanoi Hilton!
